Professor of Surgery
Professor McCollum became Consultant and Senior Lecturer in Surgery at Charing Cross Hospital, London in 1983, aged only 32. He specialised exclusively in vascular surgery following his appointment as Professor of Surgery in Manchester in 1989. He now has 25 years consultant experience in complex vascular surgery. He has perhaps the biggest practices in carotid surgery in the UK and specialises in reconstructions of the aorta including all the arteries to the brain, viscera and legs.

- Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR)

Professor McCollum's research is in arterial and venous disease. He leads a research team of Lecturers, Fellows, Scientists and Technicians, and his collaborations are with various disciplines including particularly epidemiology, neuro-imaging, dementia services, stroke medicine and cardiology. Special research interests include:
